Scott Air Force Base, Illinois Scott Air Force Base (SAFB)is located approximately 20 miles from St.Louis, Missouri. SAFB takes it name after Corporal Frank S. Scott, who was the first enlisted person killed in an aviation crash. The host unit of Scott Air Force Base is The 375th Airlift Wing. They have managed the medical evacuation system since 1975. Fifty C-21A Lear jets, which make-up the wing's Operational Support Airlift, are stationed at Scott and at bases throughout the United States. Scott employs approximately 13,065 people. The United States Air Force Bankd of Mid-America calls Scott home. The band consists of 60 full-time musicians and plays more than 400 engagements each year to live, radio, and television audiences.
Belleville, Illinois Belleville is a city located in St. Clair County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 41,410. It is the county seat of St. Clair County, and the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Belleville and the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows. Belleville is also the home of the newspaper The Belleville News Democrat. A Frenchman named George Blair founded Belleville in 1814. Blair donated an acre of his land for the Town Square and an additional 25 acres that adjoined the Square for the new County Seat, thereby replacing the old county seat in Cahokia, Illinois. Belleville was incorporated as a village in 1819, and became a city in 1850. Although the name "Belleville" is French for "Beautiful City", most of the population is of a German Heritage. Belleville was the center of the first important German settlement in the State of Illinois.
